Bailey’s Red Sangria from Bailey1806
After a study abroad in Spain, I was determined to make my own Sangria. I found a recipe online and changed and perfected it over the last seven years. I believe that every person needs their own version of Sangria, so start with mine (or another version) and then experiment!
1.5 liters inexpensive Merlot
1/3 cup rum (preferably banana-flavored, but I use spiced as a back-up)
2 liters ginger ale
1. Combine wine and liquor, add sugar* and mix well. *I used to add a half cup of sugar but as I’ve gotten older, I don’t like my Sangria as sweet so you could probably forgo sugar all together because the ginger ale makes it pretty sweet already.
2. Slice the grapefruit, lemon and apple (save the banana) and add it to the wine mixture. Refrigerate overnight or as far ahead as you can plan (at least a couple of hours).
3. When ready to serve, add two liters of refrigerated ginger ale, ice and sliced banana and enjoy!
